With our canoes and equipment we get dropped off by helicopter at upper Kaitumjaure lake in Northern Lapland. We will then embark on a six day, 100 km, wilderness canoe journey along the kaitum lakes chain and down the Kaitum river.
Our first days are spent paddling across three different interconnected lakes amongst the stunning scenery of Swedish Lapland's highest mountains. This part of our trip will include a day hike to one of the surrounding high peaks. This is a true wilderness trip through areas where moose, bears, lynx , wolves and wolverines live. The kaitum river is one of the last wild rivers in Europe and offers some of the best fishing in Swedish Lapland.
We will then head down the Kaitum river for 60 km. This includes a variety of rapids from grade I-V and we will need to portage some of the more challenging ones. We will end our trip at Kaitum and take the train back to Kiruna where we met a week earlier. There are good air and train connections to Kiruna from Stockholm.
We provide you with high quality Hilleberg tents, all food, group equipment, dry bags, and good high quality canoes fitted for solo paddling (or tandem if you wish). All you need is your personal paddling gear, sleeping bag and camping mat.
Travel to the nearest train or bus station where we will pick you up. By train and bus you will also see more of the destination country. This trip is conveniently accessible by train from Stockholm to Gällivare or Kiruna, where we will meet you.
