Between Georgia and Russia meander the 1100 km long Caucasus mountain range. Caucasus is a fantastic environment for mountain hiking. After a first trip in 2013, I am convinced that this area will in a few years become a very popular hiking destination.
I have heard Caucasus compared to what Alps was before the valley's where filled with ski resorts. But so far Georgia and Caucasus is a hidden gem. The views of the 5000-meter high mountains are fantastic. The food is good and the Georgian hospitality leaves no one indifferent.
Our five-day route goes from the Omalo to the village Pankisi. The day's stages takes us thrue a wild and seldom hiked part of Caucasus. We stay overnight in tents. We only carry light daypacks. All our equipment and food is taken by horse between our campsites.
